Tuition

I have been teaching privately for over 17 years and have had many successful students. Before relocating to the East Midlands I taught at several schools across East Anglia as well as enjoying a thriving private practise. Most of the students I take on are beginners however I teach all levels through to advanced. It doesn't matter if you can't read music, it is not as difficult as it looks! However if you have been learning for a while already I can help you to expand your knowledge and skills. I will teach you the correct techniques and show you how to get the best out of your instrument. I can also coach you through practical exams and music theory exams if you wish.

For beginners it is important to find an instrument that suits you and often it can be very daunting to go and look at them even if you know a little about what you are looking for. The harp is not a cheap hobby but it does not have to be as expensive as many believe. A decent second hand instrument can be bought for less than £1000 but it can be difficult to tell a good instrument from a bad one unless you know what to look for. I have helped many of my students to find instruments and I offer an instrument finding service for anyone who wishes to start having lessons or even just wants to upgrade their instrument.

If you are not sure if the harp is what you definitely want I can supply an instrument to you on rental for a reasonable price. This will give you a taster until you decide whether or not the harp is for you. You can find details of the harps I have available here. If you require any help or advice on learning the harp, finding an instrument or to book a trial lesson, please feel free to contact me.

Most of my teaching is on a one-to-one basis but during the school holidays I run group workshops where harpists can play and learn in a relaxed, friendly environment, among other like-minded musicians. I also teach Flute, and Piano, and will be happy to help with any of the above issues in relation to these instruments as well.

I am a representative for the UK Clarsach Society, which regularly hold events across the country, and I ran the East Anglia Harp Festival for several years as well as a harp choir and a flute choir. More information on all workshops and events can be found on the ‘events’ page. Booking is required for most events.

I encourage all my students to participate in performance opportunities and graded exams but if this is not your thing don't worry. Enjoyment is the main goal!
